Red Wing, MN - The opening weekend of the 2005 World Walleye Association
Team Challenge on the Mississippi River at Red Wing April 2nd
and 3rd was dominated by the husband and wife team of Roger Hugill
and Susan Hugill. Roger and Susan won both events and have taken
the early lead in the Minnesota Team Of The Year race with a perfect
800 out of 800 possible points which consisted of Saturday's Open
event and Sunday's Minnesota division Qualifier.
Despite dirty water conditions with plenty of debris being carried
down the river with heavy current flow from open rollers on the
dam, the Hugill's managed to catch a five fish limit weighing
11.57-pounds.
Second place was captured by the team of Gene Trowbridge and Britt
Trowbridge who also caught a five fish limit weighing 9.04-pounds.
Third place was the team of Tim Cain and Dan Strehlo with only
two fish but weighing a respectable 6.26-pounds.
Dennis Andruski and Larry Zimmerman won big fish honors on Saturday
with a 3.77-pounder.
Sunday was a little tougher for the Roger and Susan Hugill who
could only get three fish but fortunately for them they were the
right fish weighing 12.47-pounds. The Hugill's basket also included
the big fish of the day weighing 8.51-pounds.
